Heritage is pleased to announce that Steve Crippe, founder and President of GradedStamps.com, has joined their staff as Director of Philatelic Sales. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Steve started collecting stamps at a young age. He developed an early affinity for stamps with production mistakes after his own purchase of a miscut booklet at a Post Office window in the 1960's. His interest in the fascinating sub-specialty of Errors remains strong to this day, and he is recognized as one of the leading experts in this fascinating field. After 25 years of Circulation Management experience at The Seattle Times, Steve retired from the newspaper business in 1999 to launch a full-time, rare stamp business, initially selling stamps to collectors through sales booths at major stamp shows across the USA. Quickly recognizing the power of the Internet, he soon developed a custom-software website dedicated to the sale of rare stamps, migrating virtually all his business to the online venue by 2004. Steve was the first national-level stamp dealer to embrace third-party grading, introduced to the stamp market in late 2002 by Professional Stamp Experts (PSE). His leadership in this "new stamp market" was noticed, and followed by other dealers, and then ultimately, by stamp auction firms, who also began offering graded stamps to their clients. He is a current member of the American Stamp Dealers Association, American Philatelic Society, United States Stamp Society, Error, Freaks and Oddities Collectors Club and the Florida Stamp Dealers Association. GradedStamps.com will move its operations to Dallas, where it will continue under Steve's direction.

Brian Degen comes to the Heritage Team with a commendable breadth of proven philatelic expertise. From New Jersey, he attended The Life Management Institute as well as the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he studied Industrial Administration.

Brian's interest in Philately sparked as a young child, collecting alongside his father. As he became more adept, he began working for dealers, cataloging worldwide issues to acquire stamps for his collections, and attending conventions. Over time, his interests migrated particularly towards classic U.S. issues and those of Israel.

The recognition and reputation he earned as a hobbyist over the years persuaded him to establish his own philatelic business. Brian's remarkable success in that arena eventually led him to accept an offer to work with a major international auction house as a Describer, handling worldwide collections and singles, with a specialization in U.S. issues. His dossier came to include U.S. Postal history, British North America, Germany and other locations, U.S. classics, banknotes, confederates, locals, airmails, and other back-of-the-book areas. Expanding his prowess in areas such as evaluating, purchasing, lotting, appraising, consignment activities and project management, Brian moved towards becoming keenly intimate with auction house operations. He has yielded outstanding results for numerous noteworthy collections, including the Halpern Collection of British North America.

Prior to devoting himself to a career in the world of philately, Brian's business experience included working in the health insurance industry, financial management arena and in IT where he served as a Sr. Systems Administrator. The current application of this diverse background has proven invaluable.

A member of the American Philatelic Society (APS) in excellent standing, Brian's interests also include the martial arts, photography, postal history and science fiction.
