What is Guided Navigation?
Guided navigation is the ability to add and remove keywords and/or categories of items to filter results to help drill down to what you are searching for. As you add these filters, they appear in the 'breadcrumb trail' above your search results. You may add a filter(s) or you may remove any filter from your 'breadcrumb trail', at any time, just by clicking remove.

How do I narrow my search?

You can add a filter(s) located in the left column, such as 'Stamp Category,' 'Stamp Region,' 'Stamp Grading Service,' 'Stamp Condition,' and so on, just by clicking on them. If you want to just search by 'Titles', 'Titles & Descriptions' or 'Lot Number' you can by selecting one from the drop down.

Sometimes searching on a new selection will open up new sub-selection possibilities. For example, you choose to look for a stamp from the British Empire. When your search results come up, you can then narrow your search to a single country. Just remember each time you add a filter, the listing of results will become smaller, showing only those items that meet all the criteria you have selected. Once you have an initial set of results, narrow your search using whatever criteria best fits what you want to see.

You may also enter keyword(s) or keyword string(s), such as 'Washington', to help narrow your search or you can think of the one search word that best describes the item you are looking for. Maybe it's a color, like Orange, or even a color and denomination (10c Blue). For a catalog number, use the number sign: #1, #5a, etc.

How to Target Your Search -
Using quotation marks around your search phrase can help narrow your results to exactly what you are interested in. A search for 'Red Brown' without quotation marks will return all results that contain both of the words 'Red' or 'Brown'. Please note that in order to get all results that contain either of the words 'Red' and 'Brown', you would use the following search string (without quotation marks): 'Red or Brown'

A search for "Red Brown", in quotation marks, gives you all results with the exact phrase 'Red Brown', in that order, leaving out any unwanted additions such as 'and'.

When using more than one search word, try using "OR" and "NOT" -
If you want to include descriptive parameters or exclude them in your search, try using "OR" and "NOT". When you use multiple search words, the search results are trying to find items with ALL of those words in the description.

Example: If you're interested in all items from 1929 or relating to Kansas you can enter '1929 OR Kansas'

Example: If you're interested in all items from 1929 not relating to Kansas you can enter '1929 NOT Kansas'

How do I expand my search?
You can add/remove search fields or keywords from your results at any time. Above your search results is the complete list of filters you have selected with a remove option at the end of each keyword, your search will automatically refresh to show all items matching your new, broader search filters.

Swapping from Bid/Buy to Auction Archives and why you might want to -
After you have narrowed your search to what you are looking for and verified the item you are directly interested in, you may wonder how much the item has been sold for in the past. You can easily switch (just a click) to our Auction Archives and check out what the same or similar items have sold for previously. Your search filters follow you and you can conveniently shift back and forth between Bid/Buy (our current or upcoming auction inventory) and our Auction Archives.

Avoid punctuation marks unless required -
Don't use commas, periods, dashes, etc., unless required. Washington-Franklin, for example, must be typed with the dash between the two words to return any results.

Still can't find what you're looking for?
Perhaps we don't have the stamp(s) you are looking for currently, but chances are, we will soon. You can add the particular item(s) you are interested in to your "MyWantList" and you'll be notified as soon as an item on your 'want list' becomes available. If you would like further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
